Invisible, but tangible: glass is the focus of Make & Talk at Vision Milan Glass Week

Glassmaking is a tradition that has occupied human hands and fascinated the human mind for thousands of years. Despite being considered a fragile material, glass is actually ductile and offers a world of unexplored opportunities for the future. It's no coincidence that the UN General Assembly officially declared 2022 the International Year of Glass, a prestigious opportunity to underscore the central role this material plays in everyday life.

And it is this spirit of daring and curiosity that will mark the next instalment of the Make & Talk series, a round-table discussion organised by Biesse in the exclusive setting of the Vision Milan Glass Week, this coming Wednesday 6 October 2021 at 6.00 pm at Fondazione Riccardo Catella in Milan. Glass, design and sustainability come together to inspire the designers of today, whose creativity and willingness to experiment in the world of glass machining leads to the creation of increasingly sophisticated articles that push the limits of the material. Ascanio Zocchi, design manager for Glass Group and a member of ADI, will share his own experience of how the world of design interacts with this noble material in an attitude of respect for the environment. Federica Biasi, a boundless designer with a penchant for glass, not to mention the recent winner of the international “Young Design Talent” award by Elle Deco, will illustrate the ways in which tradition - a standard source of inspiration - can be revisited with a contemporary touch. Technology plays a fundamental role, placing no limits on the transformation of glass and offering new expressive and functional possibilities, always with a careful eye on energy consumption and environmental impact. Lanfranco Fontanelli, Glass, Stone & Advanced Materials Commercial Director for Biesse, will explain the role of technology in the service of creativity and of the environment. Glass is transparent, after all, even when facing the future: eternal, infinitely recyclable, with no scraps that cannot be regenerated, without generating waste, glass is itself the future we dream of. The discussion will be moderated by journalist Giorgio Tartaro.

The event, which is an official part of the rich programme for Vision Milan Glass Week, is public but access is reserved to those who have a Green Pass or a negative swab and who have registered through https://biesse.group/maketalk. The event will also be broadcast in streaming through the official website www.glassweek.it and on the event's official social media channels.
