Dear Clients,
Welcome to the Biesse Group newsletter, now in its fourth edition, which has achieved notable success registering a total of 10,320 contacts in seven months. We thank you for your continued interest in Biesse.
In 2010 Biesse will participate in just one trade fair in Italy: Technodomus 2010 in Rimini from 20 to 24 April and we will not exhibit at Xylexpo. The Rimini fair begins immediately after the International Furniture Fair in Milan (Salone Internazionale del Mobile) which should allow all of you to take part in these two high profile events in a single trip to Italy.
In addition I would like to thank all those who attended the open-house events BiesseInside & Windays organised in Pesaro in October, and which recorded a 20% increase in attendances compared with the 2008 events. The focus of the event was the European launch of the windows and door fittings technologies in which it is our aim to become a market leader within the next three years.
From an organisational perspective, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Giovanni Barra as Chief Executive Officer of the Biesse Group. I very much wanted Mr. Barra to join us as his many years of experience with multinational companies organised by processes will allow him to transfer knowledge, experience and innovation skills to Biesse.
Enjoy your reading.
Roberto Selci
Chairman

The next trade fair appointment for Biesse Wood Division will be in Rimini, at Technodomus from 20 to 24 April 2010 (we will not exhibit at Xylexpo in Milan). The only fair in Italy where clients, partners and visitors can see live versions of technological innovations and meet Biesse Wood Division's team of professionals.
The second Technodomus exhibition, Trade fair for the Wood processing industry for Construction and Furniture, follows on from a highly successful debut. The first exhibition in 2009 was extremely encouraging, taking place in a world leading production region, and attracted 18,000 qualified operators of which 28% came from outside Italy. The 2010 Rimini fair begins immediately after the International Furniture Fair in Milan, which should allow all of you to take part in these two high profile events in a single trip to Italy.
Technodomus makes Rimini Fiera, a leading operator in the Italian and International trade fair sector, the focal meeting point for the sector, an essential event for the launch of new products and for making important and profitable business contacts. A five day event, in which machinery, components, accessories and tools for the wood industry, will be the main stars of the fair. A highly innovative layout organised around specific themed areas: from large plant to traditional machines for first and second stage wood-working, at the service of both large companies and small workshops.
Biesse has decided to accept Rimini Fiera's proposal and has confirmed that it will take part in Technodomus 2010, and that it will not participate in any other Italian exhibition. Rimini Fiera's proposal, tested in 2009 with significant results, has proven to be a solution that is coherent with the dynamism required in today's market, both structurally and in terms of speed of response. "Technodomus, in our view, represents the most advantageous solution of the proposals of the Italian trade fair market - stated Riccardo Quattrini, Commercial and Marketing Director of Biesse - both in terms of the number of visitors, particularly international vistors, and in terms of the quality of services that Rimini Fiera offers in strong synergy with the territory".
We look forward to seeing you at Technodomus: Rimini, 20-24 April 2010!

The fourth BiesseInside & Windays event took place in Pesaro in October; three days dedicated to technological innovation for panel processing and technologies for the production of windows and doors.
Excellent attendance. The open-house involved visitors from Italy and elsewhere in Europe, from Asia, the Middle East and South America, resulting in a total increase of 20% in attendances compared with October 2008. BiesseInside has continued the success of previous events and reinforced its credentials as a meeting place, a space in which visitors can come into contact with the company and its innovative technological solutions, developing meetings, relationships and partnerships.
Numerous technologies were exhibited at the Tech Center in Pesaro. To see the main innovations please click on the button in the "Technology" section.
Attendance was also strong at the seminars on design and trends in furnishing and fixtures, on international developments in the furniture and doors and windows sectors, which included the participation of FederLegno Arredo and the ift Rosenheim University. Finally, the visits to the Kaizen lines met with great success amongst the participants and confirms that there is still a great deal of client interest in Lean Manufacturing, and therefore on continuous improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of Biesse's production systems.
We look forward to seeing you at our next appointment in Italy: TECHNODOMUS in Rimini from 20 to 24 April 2010!

On 25 September an inauguration ceremony was held for Biesse Schweiz, the Swiss subsidiary of the Group. The headquarters, in Kriens, occupy a surface area of 1,000 m² and was constructed in keeping with the family feeling of Biesse companies around the world.
The Swiss headquarters opened its doors to numerous visitors, both sector specialists making their first contact with the company as well as existing clients, who by their presence once again confirmed their confidence in Biesse.
The subsidiary's motivated and confident team, the know-how of its engineers, Biesse's advanced technological solutions combine to create a formula for success, which was also demonstrated by the number of negotiations started during the event.
Amongst the areas that generated the greatest public interest, one that should surely be highlighted was that dedicated to service, which included illustrations of themes relating to spare parts and after-sales service, with a focus on the local activities/services provided.
Finally, as for any Biesse event, the occasion was not lacking in the excellent hospitality extended to the public who enjoyed delicious specialities of Italian cuisine.

There is no doubt that the European windows and doors market is evolving rapidly. The necessity of guaranteeing and enhancing performance particularly given the varying climatic conditions affecting the various markets, has generated a radical evolution of the window from every point of view: type, thickness, combination of materials, component assembly methodologies, use of metal fittings, glass types, automation, alarm systems for control and security, and last but not least, design.
All of the above translates into the creation of an ever greater number of models, variants and personalised specifications that lead to a bewildering fragmentation of production. In recognition of this, Biesse has launched the WINLINE range, modular integrated solutions aimed at Just in Time production of windows and doors in standard lines and special wood, designed to satisfy the requirements of any market, from small craftsmen to large companies.
"WINLINE is a big project - stated Luca Tenti, Manager of the Biesse doors & windows tecnology project - which will allow Biesse to produce innovative doors and windows with no technical constraints to design and creativity". This is a project supported by the kind of consultancy and ability that a only a Group like Biesse can guarantee, and which can participate in partnership projects and synergies with companies involved in the production of doors and windows on a European scale.
"In addition to our leadership in the panel sector - added Riccardo Quattrini, Commercial & Marketing Director - within the next three years we want to become one of the market leaders in the rapidly evolving European doors and windows market with the new WINNLINE product range, capable of providing a simple and integrated response to market complexity".
The new range of products and technologies for external windows and doors was recently completed with the introduction of Rover C-WMS, dedicated to small producers. Biesse had previously developed the Multicentre technology with Uniwin, and extended it with Uniprof.
Uniwin and Uniprof are very compact machines capable of producing standard and special components in real time and in less than half the space required by traditional systems. Interpreting the concept of "Lean manufacturing", Uniwin and Uniprof respond in a simple and integrated way to the complxity of products and the volatility of the market permitting them to produce all that is needed when it is needed with no technical constraints on design and creativity.

In the field of nesting procedures processing, Biesse has launched Rover G, a high productivity technology for processing medium/large format panels. It is a Gantry machine which unites high productivity with single lot processing.
Its structure and particular work surface allow it to carry out cutting, milling and boring procedures on panel formats that are normally utilised on panel sizing machines and considerably reduces processing times due to its structure which allows very high levels of acceleration and deceleration.
Rover G, integrated with the automated loading bench and an unloading bench or belt, increases levels of flexibility and reduces machine down time arising from operator intervention. The loading and unloading operations take place simultaneously allowing the operator to remove pieces processed in the unloading station in total safety, while the machine is already working on the next panel.

On 12 November 2009 Giovanni Barra was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Biesse Group by the Shareholders' Meeting following the proposal put forward by the Board of Directors
Giovanni Barra arrives in Biesse having gained significant international experience in important multinational companies, in particular with the Fiat Group, including Fiat Holding, FL Lubrificanti, Fidis Servizi Finanziari, Iveco, New Holland in Great Britain and in the last ten years CNH (Case New Holland) in Brazil and in the USA.
"The arrival of Giovanni Barra represents an important step for our company", stated the Chairman Roberto Selci. "I wanted him to join us because his many years of experience in multinational companies organised by process will allow him to transfer to Biesse abilities, experience and innovation, guiding us towards the completion of an organisational model that Biesse began to adopt two years ago. The ultimate objective is to transform Biesse into a real Lean Company".
Giovanni Barra, new Chief Executive of the Group, stated: "I enthusiastically accept this important position which allows me to become part of a dynamic team and a company which is leader in its markets but still with great growth potential. We will become even more competitive and successful- added Mr. Barra - also through a more ordered management of the business processes".

Biesse has appointed Acantho, a telecommunications company located in 2,000 km, to manage the network connectivity for all of Italy as part of its global IT reorganization project.
The goal is to completely review the infrastructure and to create a real global connectivity through the Biesse Global Network project, which also establishes a Worldwide Group standard for IT services. This is an ambitious and important project- already implemented in the headquarters during the past week- making Biesse one of the first companies in the Marche region to utilize a fiber optic network.
As a result, the Group has put in place the best solution to respond to its evolutionary requirements and to guarantee a totally secure 360° increase in connectivity through a network that must be global, widespread, rapid and, at the same time, streamlined.
The first step of the project involves the connectivity of all the Italian companies in the Group and will be finished by the end of February 2010; the second step will allow the Company to further strengthen its IT network by extending the project to all of its worldwide subsidiaries and reselling local connectivity to them.
The first tangible result will be a relevant increase of the network availability, as well as constant operating continuity. The process, therefore, will guarantee greater efficiency at lower total structural cost, which is in line with the 'Lean Company' managerial approach introduced by the Group since two years.
"We believe that it is crucial to implement and to optimize our information assets at a global level to support business in responding to the growing competitiveness of markets and to maintain its leadership", stated Giuliano Capizzi, Director of Biesse Group Information Systems, regarding the signing of the agreement.
Emilio Galavotti, Commercial and Marketing Director of Acantho added: "The Biesse project accomplishes the medium-long term internal and external requirements of a Global Company: it is an important opportunity, especially in the current economic situation, to support business processes with modern telecommunications technology".

The Industrialists' Association of the Province of Pesaro and Urbino has awarded Biesse the 2008/2009 "Formativamente" prize, in recognition of the Company's training activities and its collaboration with schools and universities.
The award ceremony took place in the Teatro Rossini in Pesaro during the course of a meeting of the industrialists in September, which was attended by Emma Marcegaglia, the National President of Confindustria (the Italian Industry Federation).
"I am honoured to collect this prestigious award and I want to thank everyone in the company who worked hard to achieve this result", stated the Chairman of Biesse Roberto Selci.
To take part in training is an indispensible condition for remaining innovative. It is an objective to which the Biesse Group does not intent to diminish, either in times of growth or during difficult times. We are therefore continuing to work hard to offer our employees new opportunities to train and to update their skills. Finally I would like to thank the local Institutions and this, our Association, for the support they have provided us and the contribution they have made. To develop ability means to build the future. The partnership with the region is essential to this common duty".
